Treatment Options For Hip Pain in Burbank, Century City and Los Angeles
What Are Some Treatment Options?
Your doctor will examine you and perform a thorough physical examination. X-rays may be taken to determine the type of damage and the cause of your hip pain. In some cases, a scan called a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be used to determine the exact cause of your hip pain and whether surgery is necessary. Your doctor will then decide on treatment options for your hip pain based on your specific injury, as well as any other medical conditions you may have.
Treatment options for hip pain include:
Cortisone injections
Analgesics, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil)
Physical therapy, which focuses on range of motion exercises, strengthening and stretching exercises, and heat therapy to reduce inflammation. In some cases, you may also need to ice your hip for about 20 minutes daily for several days.
Hip Arthroscopy Surgery to remove loose particles from the joint space that may be causing pain and inflammation. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia with a small incision made in the groin area. The surgeon will then use a special camera called an arthroscope to look deep inside the joint for anything that may be causing your pain and inflammation. Any loose particles will be removed with a special tool called an arthroscope. This procedure can often provide relief from hip pain if it is due to a labral tear or tendonitis. It is also helpful if you have arthritis or cartilage damage in the joint area.
If the pain is not relieved after hip arthroscopy, you may need to have a second procedure called a hip resurfacing.
Hip Arthroscopy Procedure
Your surgeon will make an incision in your groin area.
A special camera called an arthroscope will be inserted into your hip joint. The camera will show the inside of your hip joint and allow your surgeon to visualize any problems that are causing pain and inflammation.
Your surgeon will remove any particles that are causing the pain and inflammation by using a tool called an arthroscope. The particles removed with this tool can include pieces of cartilage or bone, which can be removed with the help of a laser or other tools. In some cases, the particles may need to be removed with surgery through small incisions in the groin area. This procedure is called arthroscopic hip surgery or mini-hip surgery. If you have arthritis, cartilage damage or loose particles in your hip joint that are causing pain and inflammation, it may be beneficial for you to undergo this surgical procedure once or twice before considering hip replacement surgery.
